Living with plants

Benefits of biophilia

I think we’ve all gained a better appreciation for plant life over the past two years. There are more plant parents than ever before, tending to their ‘growing’ collections…

And this suddenly mainstream form of biophilia is still on the rise. For good reason.

Definition of biophilia (the term coined by the Harvard naturalist Dr. Edward O)

a hypothetical human tendency to interact or be closely associated with other forms of life in nature

a desire or tendency to commune with nature

It’s a design trend that has actual well-being benefits!

We find spaces with biophilic design elements (eg. living plants) more attractive, which leads to an increase in the use of that space.

You can harness the power of biophilic design to improve the wellbeing of a space’s occupants, and demonstrate care for them (for example, in an office setting, applying biophilic design principles is a way to offer employees a more harmonious working environment). The results of living with more plants are clear - enhanced mood, improved creativity and a feeling of connectedness to the living planet.

Keep greenery within sight for best results. The more the merrier - literally.
